Rams/Saints - A Forgotten Rivalry

Another one:

New Years Eve 1990 on Monday night. Saints go up on Rams by two touchdowns only to see Rams come back to tie in the 4th. But Morten Andersen hits the game winner as time expires sending the Saints to the playoffs for the second time in franchise history.

I almost included this game. We had 3 or 4 games in a row with them that were decided by a touchdown or less.

Not forgotten by me. I still hate the Rams (although not as much as I still hate the Niners.)

Another game to remember -- 1993. Saints go to Anaheim and crush the Rams 37-6 to go 5-0 on the season. A bunch of us Saints fans living in LA and going to the Sports Harbor every week chartered a bus and went to the game. By the end, we were doing some drunken made-up cheer like "Woot, there it is, 5-0".

Of course, that 1993 season was SO disappointing as the Saints dropped 6 of their last 8 games and missed the playoffs. That was the season that Hebert went off to the Failcons and the Saints offense regressed under Wade Wilson. The defense also was not as stout as the previous 12-4 season as they were in the bottom third against the run.

Same here, I hated them but no where near the level of the 49ers. The GSOT never felt like they would become a dynasty to me. I couldn't stand that team, but Kurt Warner was one of the most likable QBs in the league back then and I couldn't muster any negative feelings towards him. His rags to riches story is just the type of American success story we all dream of hearing. I also liked Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt. The one I couldn't stand was Mike Martz and his arrogance went on to be their down fall.

The 1993 season was a true disaster. We got to 5-0 and then it was just a train wreck collapse from there. They are one of those teams in history that started 5-0 and finished 8-8. The Pittsburgh game was where it all went down hill. Rod Woodson became our living worst nightmare in that game.
