The Science of Fasting

I'm on my second fast. Ash Wednesday / lent was the other time I tried it. I've been wanting to do another but couldn't muster up the courage and/or will power. Recently my weight has been creeping up because I've been in a slack eating pattern. Too many carbs, burgers & fries, etc. Tuesday morning the scale showed another increase that made me resort to a second fast. I'm going in the wrong direction with the dreaded holidays on the horizon. So, it officially started Monday evening - last meal at 7 pm. My first fast I went 73 hours. As I send this I'm about 88 hours into this one (fourth day) - uncharted waters for me. Just water and a couple of green teas a day with a stevia packet. Down 7 pounds from the Tuesday morning scare. About three pounds below my target weight, which I'm now adjusting to be 5 pounds even less. So, two pounds to go. After I break the fast, I can get back on a more sensible diet without so many carbs and sugars.

I've always wanted to go a on a week fast. I don't know if I can make it. That would mean going through the game this weekend into Monday night. I don't want to pass out yelling at the game. ;) And I'm watching carefully for adverse reactions. So far, it's all good. Just have to keep mustering the willpower.

Today, I feel that phase of clarity and relaxation. Expat, I can't thank you enough for sharing this thread and that fasting documentary. It's runs counter to a lot of conventional thinking but it makes sense and works. Well, lunchtime is coming up. Fingers crossed.
