On a serious note, nursing homes are horribly depressing places. My mother had to rehab in one after she had a stroke. This man sounds like he made a wise choice.

we recently moved my parents into one - the first one wasn't too bad, but it became clear quickly that dad need more memory care - so we moved to another and the only difference seems to be that it's on the 2nd floor and has an elevator code they don't tell the residents
in the first one, the residents were still kinda lively
the memory care place is not hopeful
