Do we package our later round picks(5, two 6s, and two 7s) to get into the 3rd round? (1 Viewer)

I mean there are guys like

Jamal Custis WR
Donald Parham TE
Zack Gentry TR
Devine Ozigbo
Maxx Crosby DE/OLB (high potential DE)
Emanuel Butler WR
Jalen Hurd Wr
Sione Takitaki OLB
Germaine Pratt MLB
Wyatt Ray DE
Dereck Thomas CB
Ty Summers ILB/OLB
E.J. Ejiya LB (120+ tkls, 25 tfl, 9 sacks)
David Long cb (Similar to Jabari Greer)
Foster Moreau TE
Alize Mack TE

Who are all projected to be available at those selections

Whatever happened to not putting all of your eggs into one basket?
Would you like a bunch of eggs or some sizzling bacon and a biscuit with just one egg. The point being that you can draft a bunch of at best role players or move up and get a stud difference maker. Not so much this year so maybe a bunch of eggs might be the way to go but in normal years I like SP and ML trading up

You're ignoring probability. There are no sure things in the draft, only higher and lower probabilities

Not ignoring probabilities at all. You have a much higher chance of hitting in the upper round s and that is another reason to trade u. 3 picks in the lower rounds have lower probability of hitting and even if they do they are not difference makers. Yes we can all cite exceptions. All the multiple lower picks give you are a few more chances to just fill out the roster

Why does everyone keep mentioning Moreau when SP hates LSU? If he didn't hate LSU why did he sign a center today when Will Clapp was ready to take over for Unger?
Ever consider the possibility that Will Clapp is not ready to take over for Unger? He didn't exactly light the world on fire the few opportunities he got. Hope he improves, but I don't think he's ready.

As for not drafting LSU players, no one knows the reason, but I've yet to hear a reasonable take that it's because Payton "hates" LSU. Why would he?

I like lots of picks we get our guys in the house, and the scout don't get to pick until later rounds and we have a great group of scouts

This has to be one of the most headscratching posts ever on here.

The fans on this board tend to dramatically overrate LSU players, because they are the local team and we know those guys.

Sean Payton doesn’t “Hate” any school...he could care less if the player could help us win.

Case in point, he DRAFTED LSU justvlast season.

That wouldn’t have been done by someone that doesn’t draft/“hates” one school.

Then, you state Clapp is ready to take over. Yet SP signs Easton, presumably due to his LSU hate, had nothing to do with the fact that after film after film and seeing Clapp for an entire year, he might actually think Easton is better than Clapp next year at this time.???

This is the NFL, not jealous play time.

It takes two to tango.

Please tell me which team is clamoring to give up a 2nd/3rd for a bunch of 6th/7th?

In all honesty... We don't need those later round picks.

If 2017 draft taught us anything. It's imperative to draft in the top 100. Anything outside of it is cannon fooder. We do need a top flight contributer and Oline.

I like to make discussions on tough hypothetical situations. This seems a solid one on the apparent need at center and drafting another solid player that can contribute.

We have a lot of junk picks and we haven't kept a 5th round or higher in a long time.
no way ! with limited picks ,most in the latter rounds, the scouting depot has to find diamonds in the rough. Jalen Hurd out of Baylor looks like some one Drew would love to throw too. And he runs pretty well out of the backfield. Originally a rb at tennessee

What team's GM would be stupid enough to trade their 3rd round pick for a handful of picks in the 5th through 7th rounds.

Seriously.

The only ways we can get into the 3rd this year is if we use next years assets, trade a player, trade picks and a player, or flat out trade down from 62. I personally think if a guy we like falls within striking distance in the 2nd, a la Vonn Bell in 17, we'll trade up and go get him. On that note, I hope Jachai Polite keeps falling and/or Taylor Rapp runs a slow 4.6 40 (cause those guys clearly play faster in pads) so we have a chance to steal one of them when we're up at the podium. I mean, at 62, there's still gonna be a bunch of guys on deck, especially at EDGE and DT.

If we do trade down, or somehow get back into the 3rd, I hope it's for a guy like TE Kahale Warring or a RB like Darrell Henderson. Seems like the 3RD RD is going to be chalk full of niche and scheme specific play makers across the board on O. There's gonna be a lot OLmen, too. Either way, I think we'll make a move at some point during the draft. We'll just have to wait and find out how big swing we actually take.

I don’t know what exact picks it will take but I’m all for jumping into the 2nd or 3rd round in this draft. Would love to add an extra pick in one of those earlier rounds where we lost the pick for Teddy. I think this could be the last draft to have a big impact on Brees career and we need to make it a good one. I think we need to target a few key players that can help us and go get them.
