I get what you're saying,but there is a good reason the NFL uses total yards and not points allowed. Pick sixes and
safeties are the fault of the offense. Kick returns for Td's are the fault of special teams.

We also have to keep in mind we've giving up a lot of yards during garbage time when we were in a prevent. That's
going to affect the total yards stats.

This is exactly why I don't put any stock in defensive rankings and go by the eye test. You can adjust the stats to rank by 3rd down percentage, yards given up per play, etc. but none of those paint the whole picture of how the defense is performing for the whole season or even an entire game. All of our defensive linemen having a sack last game is something you'll rarely see and that's the kind of thing I judge our defense on. Not to mention having an interception taken off the board on an offensive penalty. I mean, how often does some garbage like that occur?

Our D is playing lights out, regardless of what any of these rankings say.
