30 people per 100,000! Holy shoot. I’ve always wanted to live in / around NOLA (and still do, of course), but the rate down here in Australia is 1 per 100,000. That’s significant. Any indication as to the US national average?

Between 5-6 per 100K. NOLA still has an astronomically high murder rate, though as noted in the OP the trend is positive.
