Given the aggressive approach so far by the NFL, I now believe they will carry on with the season no matter what

It brings to mind the 1982 season, which of course was truncated by a labor stoppage. For the younger eyes and minds out there, this was the strike that didn’t have the “replacement players” like the one in 1987. They simply played fewer games.

In 1982, the playoffs were expanded by an extra round, division titles declared essentially irrelevant, and teams seeded by straight-up record just like the NBA. No consideration given to what teams had the best record in any single division. I’m thinking if we’re headed to a shortened season just like 1982, were likely to see division boundaries go away for the purposes of the playoffs. Arguably, it’s always been a better way to do it.

1982 was the first full season I remember watching as a kid; was just seven years old but a little research can always add to one’s own memory. An extra week of games was added at the end of the season to make for a nine-game season. Saints finished 4-5, with a win over the Failclowns in the final game. We missed the cut because the Lions beat the Packers in that final weekend. I’ve have long since forgotten the exact tiebreaker scenarios as to why this was, but both those teams ended up making the cut, as did the Failclowns. I think they were all 5-4.

Doing this without the benefit of a search, so let’s see how I do.....the Redskins finished 8-1 and were the “top seed,” basically, in the NFC, followed by the Cowgirls at 7-2. In the AFC, the L.A. Raiders were tops, I think at 7-2, followed by the Dolphins and Jets. (Yes, kids, those teams were once pretty good:p)

Skins and Girls advanced through two rounds of teams to play in the NFCCCG, where Riggins and the Skins won. The Raiders were upset by the Jets in the second round, then the Dolphins beat the Jets in the AFCCG. Skins of course beat the Dolphins in SB 17.
