Why NOT To Expect LB, QB, WR at #24...

If it ain't broke don't fix it. And I don't believe that Loomis, Ireland and Payton think their way of evaluating talent and drafting players is broken. So, why would the guys at the top change what they have done for years and select a LB, QB or WR in the first round because some chat room mock draft predicts it?

The Saints like IMPACT players in the Round One and, let's agree, all these positions can produce impact players. But, in my opinion, there is one impact LB in this draft class, Simmons, and the other LBs are "tackling machines". Do you think Loomis wants a fifth-year option on a tackler? Plus, rookie LBs get fooled a lot and, unless the LB is elite with an elite skill set to rush the passer or play pass defense, then all LBs better excel on special teams. And the Saints aren't drafting a guy at #24 to play on special teams.

Forget QB.. SP has a QB room with Brees and Hill. There needs to be added a veteran QB2 to backup Brees. Add a rookie and that would be four QBs on the roster. Would you draft a QB at #24 then try and sneak him on the Practice Squad? And, regardless of what high-school nerds ranting from their childhood bedrooms say, the Saints depth chart won't read QB1-Brees, QB2-Hill, QB3-Burreaux..

WR is tricky but just not feasible. The Saints don't need a player at WR1 or WR2, so the team will be drafting a player to compete for WR3. The pick of a WR at #24 is so unlikely that many mock drafts are moving away from the Saints selecting a WR before the middle rounds of the draft for good reason. And, with NFL Analysts predicting up to 25 WRs being drafted in the first 3 rounds, that's true position depth. With no burning need on the roster and position depth in the draft, there will be no need to select a WR before Round #3..

I'm still believing that #24 will be a CB. The team needs one and PJW and/or PRob at CB3 excites no one. Besides, what is more of an impact player than a CB that can give you steady play opposite your CB1-ML?

GO Saints!!

Taysom Hill better sign his Tender or moderate term contract extension before the draft, or the SAINTS could very well draft a QB at #24.
