That's what you give a guy that you've told will compete for it next year, that gives both the team and him an out when he gets beaten out by a real QB for the third year in a row.

I don't see him earning that 10.5 mil this year. So he will earn the majority of it next year. That puts him in the price range of experimental starting QB in 2021.
