The Taysom Hill deal was for 21 million dollars!

He's going to be our franchise QB once Drew retires... In many of our games last season, he was the best player on the field and it was obvious... I'm not sure what more some of you guys need to see. He literally excels at everything he's been asked to do, and he does all it it with the confidence and swagger of a franchise player. Why would it be any different when he lines up under center full time at some point? If fact, why wouldn't he be even better given more opportunities and experience? Look I get it, we've been somewhat spoiled here by watching one of the best to ever do it here for a long time. But Taysom will be given the keys to the car after Brees is done... and when he does... like with most Franchise QB's on their first real contract... $10.5 million a season will seem like a bargain.... and in 2022... we'll be discussing how much his next deal will kill us for.

A lot of that is true, but the thing we haven't seen him do is run the offense on a consistent basis or throw with accuracy. Even the big play to Harris in the Vikings playoff game was an under throw. And running a few plays here and there is a lot different than facing a defense that has specifically game planned to defend you. That's one big reason it could be different and when he has played in preseason, he has gotten better, but we still haven't seen him play a really great game where he dominates another teams' backups.

I'm not saying he can't be the starting QB. But it's no sure thing. And signing Winston and only giving Hill a two year deal certainly seems to indicate that the Saints want to give themselves some time to see if Hill can develop as a QB before having to commit to Taysom Hill, franchise QB.
