Taysom likely wanted a shorter deal in case that happens.

If Drew has retired this off-season, I’m pretty sure Taysom would be our starter now and his deal would have been for 3 or 4 seasons.

Or the Saints would have traded a bunch of picks and moved up to draft Tua. And, I think taking a young QB this year was something Hill and his agent thought was possible or they would have signed a contract before the draft. There is no way this deal got worked out from start to finish since the draft ended. It has to be basically done before the draft started.
