The Taysom Hill deal was for 21 million dollars!

He does it sometimes, but he has not shown to be consistently accurate. Maybe he will develop, but he isn't there yet IMO. And I think a 2 year deal instead of offering Hill real starting QB money long term tells you that the team wants to see if he develops. In fact, IIRC, when Payton said that they would get Hill more snaps at QB this year he even said it was to help him develop as a QB. That tells me that although Payton thinks he will develop, he isn't there yet. And, if he was there, they probably would not bother signing Winston.

But, like I said, the biggest question is what he can do if another team actually game plans against an offense that is designed to take advantage of his talents. And, I mean, lets be honest, Hill was not a good college QB. He was a UDFA for a reason. He has obviously shown that he is a good football player and a good guy, but he hasn't yet shown that he is a good QB. Maybe he will be and he will get a chance to prove it, but a few plays here and there as a QB doesn't really do it for me. But, I obviously don't see him in practice so Payton would know better, and I think signing Winston and not being willing to commit QB money to Hill for the long term yet, tells you Payton doesn't think he is ready to be a full time QB either.

Ideally, I would love to have him on the team running those read options and being used in gadget plays for the next 5 years but I can see why he wants to play QB where a guy can play until he is in his 40s.

I'm not sure how he's supposed to show anything consistently in the regular season passing when he limited to a handful of passing plays while Drew is in there... pretty unfair assessment if you ask me.

I can tell you that he's been very consistent when he gets the opportunity to throw on a regular basis in the pre-season... to the tune of %74 and 68% completion rate respectively the last 2 years (with 7.5 YPA and over 90 QBR BTW)...

And teams game plan for him now (all be it in a more limited role) in the regular season and playoffs.... they still can't stop him.

Like I said, the offense will be different with him starting, and possibly more dynamic and diverse... we have only seen a glimpse of what it will be with Taysom as the starter... but I have no doubt Payton can make it flourish.

Again, not sure what he has to do at this point to get some people to see it... he's literally done everything asked of him, and has excelled at everything he's been given the opportunity to do... I see no reason to believe he won't be our future starter, and that we won't be a stud doing so.

It's already been reported that the Saints wanted to sign him for 3 years... Taysom wanted 2.... I guess on that is... No one real;ly know what Brees will do... we all expect him to retire after next season.... we expected him to retire after this season... What if he decides to keep coming back as long as Brady does? Taysom wants to be a starting QB.... He had to get protection form that scenario. That's why the 2 year deal.
