Are we reading the tea leaves correctly?
Most of us assumed that Taysom received no offer sheets and that he would be forced to sign his tender for $4.641 million. A lot of us were saying that was about what he is worth and some even thought that was too much. Those that said he was worth a lot more were roundly laughed at.
Instead he signs a two year extension for $22 with incentives. Think about that. They could have had him for $4.641 million this year. So one way to view this is that the saints just offered Taysom $17 million for 2021.
Maybe just maybe he had teams willing to sign an offer sheet and a combination of wanting to be Drew's heir and the Saints desire to pay bigger dollars to keep him is why no offer was signed. Maybe it was a conscious decision to pass on potential offers.
I'm just thinking , if there really was zero league interest in Taysom and the Saint only think of him as a gimmick play man, why would the Saints throw $17+ million at him for one more year?
There has to be more that we don't know about this situation.
