He was also talking about N95 masks which is not what is being recommended. What is being recommended is basically anything that covers the nose and mouth to hinder the ability of the virus to spray long distance or cause droplets which land on high touch surfaces. These are two completely different things as the N95 seeks to stop the virus from getting in and requires a tight seal possibly causing the issues he stated.

In fact, I read this morning that those masks with the 1 way valve are problematic in that they funnel all of the exhaust through that port without any hindrance and therefore are completely useless for protecting others. Protecting others is exactly what we are trying to accomplish here.
