COVID-19 Outbreak (Update: More than 2.9M cases and 132,313 deaths in US)
I'm at the point of just saying screw it an let people do what they do. But then, I really don't want the medical workers to suffer more than they already have. They're stressed enough as it is.
And I'm not saying we shouldn't open things up. It just needs to be done smartly. Wearing masks in public places and respecting other people's boundaries should be easy to do. But too many can't even do that. Meh.
I'm starting to realize the a good chunk of our society has very little patience, awareness, or empathy and are just going to do what they want to do after a solid 40 days of having to spend a little bit more time with their family without their Friday night Applebee's trip to drink 22oz Bud Lahhts, blow off steam and flirt creepily with the half-their-age waitress.
I'm sliding into "f it, just open it up, I'll take my chances" territory. Wife and I are healthier than probably 98% of the American population of any age, and it's almost certain we'd be fine. I don't want to be in that place. I don't want old and compromised folks to die. I'm also being exhausted and overwhelmed by the anti-science folks and the "muh freedom muh economy" folks and poorly thought out plans by some in leadership.
Starting to selfishly just feel like "we'll be fine, let's do it". Our leadership is pushing us that direction anyway, let's stop pretending we're going to do it in any sort of data-driven or intelligent fashion and just go full #YOLO.
ETA: That's not where I want to be, and I'm perfectly fine staying home. I could do it for the entire summer with very little issue. I've enjoyed the hell out of the extra time with my family. The lack of alone time and quiet can be overwhelming at times, but I like my family. Saving a lot of money. Plus I have a pool now so I'm good.
ETA2: I also realize we're dealing with a vocal minority, and the majority of our society is treating the situation with the gravity it deserves.
