The Unemployment Line: COVID-19 Edition

Yeah that’s my biggest problem with the “people shouldn’t get more in Unemployment than they were making while working!” Crowd.. .. #1) it’s proof that lots of people have been criminally underpaid, barely getting by on slave wages for years.. and #2) if you’re gonna get outraged about Joe Schmo on the street getting $800/week unemployment, I’m okay with you being outraged IF, and only IF- you have an equal amount of outrage, or even MORE outrage, for the Corporations who are also recovering the equivalent of ‘Unemployment payments’ to the tune of Billions of dollars.. You cant have it both ways, you cant rage at the single mom making $30k a year who’s finally getting a little bit of relief, while not being JUST AS ANGRY at the corporations doing the exact same thing.

Yup.

If it wasn't for the Fed putting in a big chunk of change, in Florida, Unemployment Insurance benefits only pay $275/week, which is equivalent to $14,300 a year or $6.875 an hour.

That's a really tough pill for someone making $70k/year and laid off. Heck, it's a tough pill for anyone, since it's under Min wage.

With the $600/week added, it would be an equivalent to $45,500 per year, or $21.875/hour. Being, that it is a short term deal, and helps account for pandemic pricing (lots of grocery items not on sale now). Not a bad wage, but I've been past that for a long long time.
