Happy Birthday to the Black & Gold franchise
“Happy Birthday” 🎉🎊🎂🎈🎁 to our franchise, which was awarded to the Crescent City on ALL SAINTS DAY (Nov 1st) 1966!
It was awarded one year before the first season in ‘67. Team colors of black & gold were chosen because the first owner (John Mecum) was an oil tycoon... and oil was known as “black gold.”
I’m an old fart, and I remember when it happened!
