I'll append that, unless you weld people in their homes like China and N Korea, you can't protect them, but that would destroy our country worse than it already is...

Certainly not without making any kind of serious and medically informed effort, they were never going to be able to. But it continues to need to be pointed out...the US has roughly 4% of the world's population and roughly 20-25% of it's COVID-19 deaths. With some of the world's best epidemiological expertise available here we've still managed to completely ignore said expertise and really screw the pooch.

China did not "weld" people into their home. There were constant checkpoints and you needed a mask to go anywhere. Also for a solid month and half nothing non-essential was open. There were cases where if there was cases within a community (and communities are large apt complexes) where you were restricted. I knew someone who was actually in that situation.

Currently, China requires masks to be worn to enter malls etc.... Generically, people tend to take them off, but Starbucks won't take your order without you wearing one. It is ok, because you can use the app to order coffee and you can pick them up without a mask.

China has far less chance of an outbreak here, but the methods are far less draconian than people think. People here are more compliant to request. People will where masks if asked, but Chinese can be very passive aggressive with rules as I pointed out above. China controls information though, but the upside you don't have the crackpots spewing their misinformation (stupidity). Worse...people actually believing the nonsense.
