The team obviously wanted to trade up. Payton said as much. So IMO this isn't who they were targeting in round one but since they couldnt afford to move up you get a player you can bring along slowly since he's really only depth.
CB and LB are still huge positions of need IMO. Hopefully there are some diamonds yet to be mined.
Weather you can trade up or not, you don’t spend a 1st round pick after losing your HOF QB on a “project” type player. We’ve needed a LB and another CB and we wasted our first round pick on a 4th round prospect for “depth”
