I know he's had opportunities with Teddy and Taysom, and despite his criticisms of himself during that time - he's passed with flying colors.
But I feel like this will be different. He's no longer implementing a stopgap. It's permanent and I think it will require him to be a lot more flexible than he would normally be.
He will need to be less... stubborn. When you've worked with someone like Drew Brees your entire HC career; someone who's capable of compensating for any flaws or shortcomings in your gameplan, how will he fare without that safety net?
For me, I disregard practically everything Payton has achieved thus far and look at this season as a fresh assessment of his skillset because I don't know what kind of coach he is without Drew Brees.
