The real villain in the Home Alone franchise is Kevin. He has every opportunity to contact law enforcement to deal with the wet bandits, but instead, he takes great pleasure in dishing out as much physical injury as he possibly can.
Its part of his psychosis, which is why as he gets older his traps get more insidious and before you know it he's asking people "Do you want to play a game".
Kevin grows up to be Jigsaw. That's my theory. Saw and Home Alone are in the same movie universe.
