did she go on her own, then he left, walking to Jackson Hole, she dies somehow there without him knowing, he returns, finds her body (or not), leaves in the van back to FL.
I think in that case, he would have alerted authorities to start a search. The only viable reason to leave there without her, is you don't want to be there when they find her.
