Will winston be back next year?

I've been thinking about this since the injury.

I think Jameis returns next season, but not on a huge contract. It will be something more like the contract that Brees signed when he came here from SD, call it a more than a prove it, but less than a "max contract". The 3/$60M with $20M guaranteed mentioned above, sounds about right.

Since Jameis was the #1 overall pick, he's made quite a bit of money in the NFL already. $52M according to Spotrac.

Jameis is still a young QB even though he's been in the league for 7 seasons. He's still only 27 y/o since he was 21 his rookie season. By comparison, Brees was 22 and Brady was 23 and they weren't starters until 23 and 24 respectively. Jameis started his rookie season and then he was a backup his age 26 season and now injured his age 27 season. He'll be 28 next season, his 8th season in the NFL. If he returns as QB1 next season, he'll essentially be on the same timeline as a QB who sat a year or two at the beginning of their career, but he'll be ~2 years younger since he came into the league at 21 whereas most QBs are coming in at 22/23 after 3 or 4 years of college.

Keeping Winston as QB1 is a lot more realistic than pursuing Wilson or Rodgers for 2022. Winston still has time to earn at least 1-2 more contracts should he continue to develop and reinvent himself in CSP's system.

As for Book, having a QB2 on a rookie contract isn't a bad thing considering where the team has to allocate funds over the next few seasons.
