Bill Parcells made a similar decision. He gave serious consideration to coaching the Saints during Payton's one
year suspension. He decided against it when told it would be 5 more years added before he could be selected
for the HOF. He was 70 at the time and said there was no guarantee he'd live that long. It worked out well. He
was enshrined the following season.
