Metal Gear Solid 4 now reservable!

Preordering and gift cards are two ways for companies to make a substantial amount of dough on interest and investments off of YOUR money. Flip side, though, is that you holding onto your own dough isn't likely to make you a whole lot, so I usually preorder something if I know it's something I really want. But I pay in full up front. That way, I walk in, show them my receipt, and walk out with the game.

Most games like RPGs and the like, though, I usually don't purchase right away. You can wait 6 months to a year on games and get them for half price, which is worth a great deal when games are running 60 bucks a pop nowadays.
