That non-call may have closed the door on this era of the Saints
This is what I referred to when I made this thread several years ago. It takes a lot of things to come together in order to win a Superbowl - the right cast of players, the right coaches, relatively few injuries, a favorable schedule, and a little luck. Just like 2009, the Saints had it all lined up perfectly that year (even a lot of the same eerie coincidences) but the NFL yanked it from them and it's not a stretch to say that it somewhat changed the legacy of Brees, of Payton, and of course the franchise. After that game was over I knew that was the end. I remember my wife and daughters hugging me because they could tell I was upset...not just over the game but that the amazing run was over (I think a little in all of us died that day as fans.) I think most of us agree that the NFL has never been the same to us since that no-call.
What a great run we have had under Payton and Brees. We were so lucky to have them along for the best ride in our franchise's bleak history. I said it then and I will say it again - I love my Saints and will always pull for them...but man how I loathe what the NFL and Roger Goodell did to my love of football.
