I'm also wondering what the percentage (if any) are those that simply want out. I remember in basic training there were a handful of soldiers that regretted enlisting and looked for ways to get out. The non-compliance, defiant route was met by sending them to a stricter temporary unit where they broke and their will and they came back and fell in line. It doesn't dawn on you that the armed forces is a different beast than the private sector. You can't just quit your job - you're AWOL and subject to discipline.
I'd imagine you experienced it in the Navy.
