Is Old Music Killing New Music?

There was an article in my hometown's newspaper about Bad Bunny being the most streamed artist in 2020. The picture with the article, he's wearing rabbit ears and holding what looks to be a gold purse. If you hear one Bad Bunny song, you have heard them all.

The guy who was the half time show last SB, he basically does disco.

That said, there is good music out there, as well as good entertainers.. but what music today lacks, IMO, is the cultural/social/generation defining act... what's the 2010's version of Fortunate Son? Born in the USA? Smells Like Teen Spirit? Nothin' But a G Thang? There are no Bob Dylan's, Bruce Springsteens, Pearl Jams, NWA's, Arrested Developments anymore. The so-called gender movement doesn't come close to the 80's coming out movement with acts like Erasure, Bronsky Beat, Depeche Mode, etc. Even covid doesn't compare to HIV in the 80s - you have to remember, countless deaths from AIDS went undiagnosed, and AIDS was very much a death sentence, plus no one was denying it was real.

Even in the Spanish speaking world, it' been a long time since Facundo Cabral, Nidia Caro, Alberto Cortez, Oscar Chavez...

Good. No one on my lawn.
