The case for Desmond Ridder

He'll likely not be a top 3 qb off the board. At the end of the day, i'm not totally sure why. He's a more ready NFL player than the others. HE throws a very very very solid ball with very good enough arm talent. He's shown to me to be very accurate with his passes. (I think accuracy is the biggest need of a qb with a WR1 named Michael Thomas) He's a heck of an athlete, can be mobile in today's game. On thinner side, but has nfl height and proved to be a winner in college.

For the Saints, transitioning to a defensive minded ball club, need a steady presence on the cheap would be terrific getting this team out of cap hell (yes it is a thing for all you non believers). I would not be against Saints drafting a player at 18 but trying to fight there way back to the bottom of the 1st or top of the 2nd to go after Desmond Ridder. I believe he's a great fit here.
Unfortunately, he has not shown to be accurate or to throw with anticipation consistently enough, or he would be an easy top-10 selection. I follow the UC program a good bit, and can tell you he's a spectacular human and leader; definitely someone you want on your team. If there is anyone who can correct his deficiencies with good coaching, I would put my money on him. He has come a long way as a passer since his freshman year, but there's plenty of evidence to suggest he's not ready to do it at the NFL level just yet. That being said, I wouldn't hate it if the Saints took him at the right spot. At absolute worst, he's a premium backup QB and an amazing addition to the lockerroom.
