The Saints drafted Turner last year to be a backup at DE. There was not going to be ANY player drafted in the 2nd round that would have started for the Saints this year. So they took something they liked that they felt could contribute as a backup to multiple spots/be great on special teams and play a key role in 2023.

Turner was not drafted to be a backup. He was drafted to be a rotational player. Much easier to do that at DE than at CB. Taylor is a great special teamer that they hope can eventually develop into a nickel guy or contributor in the secondary. I hope he was not drafted as insurance if CGJ negotiations go south.
