Unpopular opinion: Americans got spoiled by low gas prices and falling travel costs. From 2013-2021, average gas prices were sub-$3. The average mpg for light trucks has gone from 19.5 to 25 mpg from 2005 to 2020, a 30% increase. Hybrid vehicles further reduced costs. The actual cost to drive has been stable or falling for most of the last decade.

Rising gas prices will drive public demand for EVs. Amazon and their last mile delivery don’t work well with high gas. Americans still won’t support public transportation.

dont know where you live, but where im at there is a horde of LARGE SUVs ( Yukon/Tahoe/ Expedition, etc etc ) Even my wifes mid size SUV only gets around 22mpg. Thank goodness school is out and she is off work for summer because she would traverse 40 mi a day easy.

I dont know how these folks arent cringing at the pump- its gotta be close to $100-110 to fill up one of those SUVs. Maybe more. Shoot a 600 mile trip, gas alone would be around $200 ...whew.
