Woman wins $5.2 million suit against GEICO for catching STD in a car

Was this recent or long ago?
last time was about 10 years ago, first time was around the early 00's. as a non-policy holder, both times were a bad experience in receiving payout.

first was being rear-ended (lol) making a right turn. the girl who hit me was maybe 18 and i felt bad for her. her father was in the passenger seat teaching. zero issues at all dealing with the dad, in fact, he's the reason i was able to get the claim resolved, and even offered to pay me the difference in cash if it continued to drag on.

my problem was the payment amount as it was a few thousand under. my friend's dad was a car salesman and was able to get me the wholesale value in writing (i did buy it from him..) and the offer was below that. i did not owe anything on the car, but the amount quoted to me was way off the appraisal on their end (took way too long to get a copy of). little tick tack stuff, like manual transmission, -$500 off, etc., and i was ok with the deductions, except, the appraisal had already taken these into account. ultimately i was paid the exact amount from the appraisal, but the work put into getting it was almost not worth it. *sniff* i actually liked that sheetty car.

second was my wife using my car and her coworker ran into it while backing out. the damage wasn't that bad, mostly a rim, tire (which the collision center would only replace as a pair), and an alignment. ultimately, not a big deal. wrong. double wrong. even though i brought it to the place recommended by geico, it took 8 weeks for the work to be completed because of all the hang-ups. good thing i didn't request a rental, i'd still be waiting on reimbursement.
