Basically they are just sub-lineages of the Omicron Variant.

WHO created a new classification system for them.

the CDC tracks the various sub-lineages of Omicron, since basically all of the other variants are gone.

As of mid June, BA.2.12.1 was over 50% of what was found circulating, with BA.5 and BA.4 growing, especially BA.5.

The NOWCAST for this past week, is estimating BA.5 to have taken over as over 50% of cases, and BA.2.12.1 being about 25%.

I wonder which one I caught. Statistically, I'd have to assume BA.2.12.1
