Texas, the new Florida
It’s weird when you really think about it
I don’t feel like I’ve ever lived in Louisiana, even though I’ve lived in New Orleans off and on for 30+ years
Same with NYC
but when I lived in Greensboro, I’m more inclined to say I lived in North Carolina (and not just bc the state name is more notable)
and certainly when I lived in Denton, it was Texas state identity that mattered most - way way more than anywhere else I’d lived or even visited
i couldn't live in nyc. aside from my frequent visits for work and forced visits to see my brother, i forking hate ny. easily the most overrated city in america. i'd take boston 99.9999999999999% for every reason over nyc. i have over a combined year worth of having been in that sheethole. fork. now i'm angrier.
all of that said, i absolutely loved greensboro. proctor and gamble has a plant out there i was doing a project with. absolutely loved the area. also did a lot of work in charlotte, loathed everything about it. greensboro s+++ tier, charlotte d---, not quite f, but forking close.
i didn't hate texas, but it wasn't a "omg, i regret moving" either. college station was a very relaxed place. things like crime etc. are very low, seems to be a good place to raise kids, the schools are well rated (or were, i wouldn't know now), and in general, just a good place to live. the downside is, no students, the most boring forking place ever, especially when school is out. *bam* half the population instantly on vacation.
my regret is not accepting an opportunity to work and live in portland, maine. it would be cold as balls, but i hate high humidity wayyyy more. the real estate prices though.. that was the turn off and i was making more than enough to afford it, but still. fork it is insane to purchase, lease, and more importantly rent.
i've in the baton rouge area since '08. first denham springs (blehhhhhhhhhhh) and the last six years downtown br. it isn't new orleans, and i love to talk sheet about it, especially the food, but i don't mind where i am. i'm in one of the small pockets of non-100% right neighbourhoods.
if i had the means, i'd totally move back to australia though. i'd whore myself out if a sugar momma, or possibly daddy, wants to move there and needs a marriage for citizenship, i get a paid move, etc., i'm not above this. *hint*
