Self Checkout

So this happened just last week

I was making a salad went to the store and was in the checkout line

The young woman cashier looks at me and says 'what's this?'

I say, 'it's fennel'

I didn't mind fennel is hardly an ordinary everyday vegetable

Then she holds up a bulb of garlic and asks, 'is this an onion?'

"no, it's garlic". okay, that was starting to seem a little odd, but possible

Then with a completely befuddled and bewildered look on her face she holds up a produce bag of loose veggies

I shirt you not, this actually happened. I look at her for like 5 full seconds then say, 'They're carrots'

What the fork?!

She was young and I don't know how old she was, but how does a person reach whatever age she was and not know what a forking carrot looks like???

If you've ever seen a Bugs Bunny cartoon you know what a carrot looks like!
Should've told her that if she wanted to know how to use the carrot, watch "Fast Times at Ridgemont High".
