Andy Dalton…… (1 Viewer)

One of the better backups in the league, glad to have him.
I'd go as far as to say he's hands down the best back-up QB in the league. The only knock I can think of that's keeping him from being some team's chosen starter is his age. He's 34 and is not a superstar. The new big thing in the NFL is to have a 24 year old budding superstar QB with all-pro potential for the next decade. Dalton is what Dalton is; a solid-not-flashy consistent starting caliber NFL QB. He's not going to carry a team and make skill players play above their level. But if you already have the studs on offense, good depth, and a defense that can win games on it's own... I'd bet Andy Dalton could help you win a Superbowl.

If Winston struggles, we will have a quarterback controversy. You may not win games because of Dalton. But you should not lose games because of Dalton. And the Saints may have enough talent elsewhere on offense and on defense (assuming reasonably good health) to compete with a quarterback who is good enough not to lose games.

I can’t shake the feeling that his red hair might be a reason he is not as well respected as he should . I was shocked we got him, awesome guy

If you think Jameis Winston is the future, you're deluding yourself. He serviceable but if he really was the future, I imagine Payton would still be our coach.

I don't think there is any doubt that Dalton is the best QB on our roster atm but I think he can only take us so far.

I've always been mildly fascinated with stories of veteran QBs that had a general consensus of "we've seen the best that we're going to see out of them as starters, but they can still be solid backups", only for them to end up back in a starting lineup and unexpectedly catching fire, taking their teams on a run.

Nick Foles is pretty much the ultimate example of this, even though his run didn't really get started until the tail end of the 2017 season. But you had Vinny Testaverde with the 1998 Jets, getting all the way to the AFC title game. Kerry Collins in 2008 led the Titans to a #1 seed in the AFC, along with Kurt Warner getting the Cardinals to the Super Bowl in that same season. Ryan Fitzpatrick nearly got the 2015 Jets into the playoffs. And as annoying as it is to have to mention this one, Case Keenum in 2017 with the Vikings.

So with all that said, yes, Andy Dalton is intriguing to me. Seemingly overnight he has become the top player for me to watch for the remainder of preseason.

I Like Jameis and I hope he is lights out, comeback player of the year going deep into the playoffs ,but I've got this niggling Karma come to get you feeling that Andy leads us to the Superbowl against Bengals and wins , they never put talent like this around him in Cincy. Don't know why but Karma's a birch when she comes to get you, For Joe Cool Third times the charm. For Winston he goes The Jeff Blake route Its the bad karma from FSU come to get him No Gris Gris intended

Calling it now……
Dalton will lead the Saints at qb into the nfc championship

After Buffalo did the four-consecutive-losses thing, only one team has made it back to the Super Bowl after losing the previous season (2018 Patriots). Meaning I'm not looking for Cincinnati to get back to the Super Bowl this season. AFC is too stacked.....plus the 2021 Bengals feel like some kind of alternate version of reality where the 2006 Saints somehow came back to beat Chicago in the NFCCG. The Bengals definitely had their chances, but sometimes you can get there way ahead of schedule.....and it doesn't always end well.

So the GM/HC/FO past 3 years of Cincinnati, Dallas and Chicago are idiots?

Dalton is on his 4th, 20 more and he ties Deshaun Watson

Hello all. Dalton is a good QB. He had a solid team around him in Cincinnati his first 4 years. That's when he made the pro bowl 3 times. The bad is they lost every playoff game and he threw 1 TD to 6 INTs in those 4 games. He has better WRs here than Cincinnati. We'll see.
