Andy Dalton…… (1 Viewer)

Before we settled the QB situation during the offseason, Dalton was actually an intriguing option to me, had we still been in search of one. While he wasn’t a popular choice, it’s amazing we got him for depth. Definitely a good guy to have, and I think we could certainly win many games with him if needed.

If you think Jameis Winston is the future, you're deluding yourself. He serviceable but if he really was the future, I imagine Payton would still be our coach.

I don't think there is any doubt that Dalton is the best QB on our roster atm but I think he can only take us so far.
Nothing wrong with your perspective. But I think Winston is the Saints best hope to win THIS year. Beyond that, neither Winston, or Dalton, are the long term viable answer. And I think not only Payton knew it, but so does Loomis and this staff. Why did they go so hard for Watson, if they truly believed Winston is their long term answer?

WTF?

They went after Watson , so Winston with better coaching under the Saints , He cant be a franchise QB? JW turned 28 years old?

They didnt give him $40 million per year for 5 years so that means he is not a franchise QB?

Kurt Warner was stocking shelves but he is a Hall of Famer but really he isnt? He really isn't because he wasnt drafted in the first 3 rounds and the HOF committee really made a mistake?

LOL

Don't think we have a QB controversy but Dalton is an accomplished veteran than can step in and lead a team. As you know the Saints tend to not disclose injuries and there has been no indication Winston will be ready come week 1. If he doesn't, I'm confident in Dalton to start more so than Ian Book

This is almost like an April Fools Day thread. A guy plays one series in a preseason game and all of a sudden we have a QB controversy.
Naw thats Saints Report, i would be more shock if it was level headed LOL Dude threw 5 passes in first preseason game against backups on a bad team and everyone talks about how good he is. To even say he is better then Prescott, means you watched 0 games of the cowboys to even make that statement. Dalton is solid but he is not better then Winston at this point at all.

I'm new to the forum and couldn't tell if this is par for the course or if this is a troll thread or not. No clue how some on here arrived at these overreactions after 1-2 drives during a preseason game versus a bad team.

Not to cast doubt on Dalton's long career but there's a reason why he's on his fourth team and learning an entirely new offense in so many years at this point in his career. I think it's fine if you're still skeptical about Winston however he did incredibly well considering the lack of wr talent he had to work with last year. Why is that being ignored?

I would imagine given he has Thomas, Olave, and Landry to throw to this season he will perform even better. Winston has never had an issue with taking full advantage of the talent around him (Mike Evans and Chris Godwin) and making other players on the roster better (Adam Humphries and Cameron Brate). His issues have been turnovers which were exacerbated in 2019 in a offense that did not play to his strengths nor HOF'er Tom Brady in 2020, which is why they had to change the offense for Tom.

There are some people who don't like Winston because of mistakes he made off the field as a college kid, and they refuse to accept that he has matured and learned from his mistakes.

Then there are other people who will never like him because, well let's just say they also didn't like Aaron Brooks, or Jeff Blake, and you can extrapolate from there.

Aaaaah, got it! Winston made it easy for anyone who wasn't an FSU fan not to like him coming out of college. He was very immature but it looks like he has made strides to correcting that over the years. To your second point, understood!
