Scam Calls and Emails

About 15 years ago I had a "Police Detective" from Lakeland, Fl call me on my cell. He was investigating $500K worth of bad checks that my wife wrote (but gave her Maiden Name). Yada Yada Yada the conversation went on and he says that after speaking to me that he now realizes that someone has acquired her identity but I am still responsible for the fines ($5,000). Little did he know I was having lunch with a friend of mine that is in the FBI. I asked him to hold on one sec and put my friend on the phone as my representative. He played it out and agreed that I would pay the fine and he needed to provide instructions on how to make payment and we hung up with "check is n the mail". My friend took all of the information and phone number and provided it to the local agent working Fraud who then supplied it to his counterpart in Fl. Come to find out they actually ended up arresting the guy about a year later and my wife's information was found with the other thousands of victims names. He was obtaining the contact information from magazine subscription list (that is why he used my wife's maiden name) that are sold between publishers.
