I dont get the BPA

Finally, there is no reason to ever reach for a player. If the guy you really want is not rated near where you pick then you trade down and get more picks. There is no reason not too. You trust your scouts to do their job and move around as appropriate. Sometimes it means a trade down, sometimes it means a trade up.

You make the best point. "VALUE" has nothing to do with how good a player is or will be. It's a gauge of where evaluators perceive you to be. The perception was that Colston was a late round to FA talant. To draft him in the first round would have been a reach based on where you could have gotten him.

Was/Is he worth a 1st round pick? Absolutely. If the Saints or any other team would have drafted him in the 1st (based on the info that was available back then) they would have been criticized and rightfully so no matter how well it turned out. Because if you would have drafted him in the 2nd round, that means you could have spent your 1st round pick on another talanted player.

To pick a player a little higher then they're projected is ok if it means you're sure to get the player you really want but just because you reach for a player and they perform highly does not make you a good evaluator. Cuz you could have had both players if you played your cards correctly.

A bunch of jibberish to say, projection has nothing to do with what you will eventually do in the league. To many low pick play and to many high pick flop. You have to play it like the stock market and get your value to try to increase your chance to land more good players.
