Lord of the Rings Series -- Amazon

Boy it really grates on me when fiction refers to “forces of evil”. Sounds like fan fiction written by a 13 year old. These stories should be more nuanced by now. “We’re battling evil”. What does that even mean?
From what I remember of LOTR, that pretty in line with Tolkien, although there are certain allusions he makes, as to what makes evil, e.g. destroying and perverting nature, and seeking out power for its own sake. There was also an anti-industrial theme. If you read the Silmarillion, the bad guys are bad because they rebelled against Eru Illuvatar (God, basically). I think Tolkien was trying to "hide" this in his earlier novels as he trying not to offend the secular portion of his audience. I'm not sure how the show will handle this, I don't think they've mentioned Eru yet.
