N/S Giants GM calls Eli "skittish"

My thanks also for resurrecting this thread. Up here in CT, I can't help but hear all about the Giants' troubles, especially since the station that I listen to exclusively is also the flagship of the Giants, WFAN. All I heard was how bad he was and how big a mistake they made to trade for him and pay him a huge salary that they couldn't get out of now. One morning I heard Boomer with his first hint to the truth.. he noticed that the receivers were running REALLY undisciplined routes. Then a really key thing happened.. Shockey went down and the Giants started winning! I thought back to the one play that sticks out in my mind.. the pass to Shockey that bounced off the back of his head. Then it occurred to me.. Manning finally has control of the huddle! This quote by '79 Saints states it brilliantly:

Remember Eli throwing all those picks against the Panthers in the playoffs? Where was Burress? JOGGING through his routes. Compare him to the types of players Payton plays with -Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, who don't take downs off or go through the motions because a game is lost.
Eli has become more of a leader once Tiki Barber retired (again, a self-serving move to announce it during the season), and he will be a better quarterback/leader once the Giants rid themselves of Burress, Strahan (who dangled his immature "holdout" during the entire Giants training camp) and especially Shockey -who could use a lesson in professionalism from players like Jason Witten, Todd Heap and Tony Gonzales -all of whom have done more with less, than Shockey.

NPs6724 also stated that the above players were "loudmouths" and Manning couldn't take control from them. He was correct to a point.. Strahan is on defense and Burress is manageable. He was dead on about the other 2 viruses tho', and once the last last virus was gone from his huddle, he took charge. I would love to hear the whiney excuses from all of the earlier posters to this thread as to why this "overpaid loser" is now in the superbowl.
Good luck to Eli and the Giants! If The Saints can't be there, I can't think of anyone else who deserves it more.
