Saints to beef up defense

One year ago, the New Orleans Saints were just getting started with their offseason, and it was a harried time for general manager Mickey Loomis.
These days, Loomis and the Saints are doing everything they can to make next January far more hectic than this one.
"A year ago because of the playoff situation we got a much later start," Loomis said. "We would rather have it that way, but unfortunately we had a little extra time, so we were able to get our team evaluated and start on some free agent evaluations and the coaching staff earlier.
