Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023

All this.

First thing that needs to happen is Allen getting fired.

Then it will come down to which other jobs are available.

-Rams are concerning because they’ve proven they’re willing to operate like the Saints: going all-in. If McVay decides he’s burned out, this would be hard for SP to turn down (it would also be worst case scenario for us since they don’t have a first round pick).

-Chargers are concerning bc of Herbert. But will they give SP the power he wants? And if they make the playoffs, will they fire Staley anyway?

-Cardinals were rumored and Payton spoke glowingly about Kyler and being a Cardinals ball boy.

Dallas if they fire McCarthy? Would Jones give SP the power he wants?

Maybe if Tomlin decided to walk away in Pittsburgh? KC if Reid retires?

Beyond that, hard to see many other fits.
If the Rams don't have a first round pick, you simply tell them sorry, Payton isn't available to you. Tough luck. Chargers...I'm inclined to think Staley stays put unless they miss the playoffs and/or lose games. Cards, they're not making another coaching change just yet imo. Dallas? McCarthy ain't going anywhere just yet. They've had a nice season, although they're only a couple of losses from being out of the playoffs.

I'm not sure Payton and the Steelers' culture would mesh. But they do have a young qb to groom.
