Jeff Duncan on Sean Payton 2023

If the Rams don't have a first round pick, you simply tell them sorry, Payton isn't available to you. Tough luck. Chargers...I'm inclined to think Staley stays put unless they miss the playoffs and/or lose games. Cards, they're not making another coaching change just yet imo. Dallas? McCarthy ain't going anywhere just yet. They've had a nice season, although they're only a couple of losses from being out of the playoffs.

I'm not sure Payton and the Steelers' culture would mesh. But they do have a young qb to groom.
Yup, Payton’s realistic market probably doesn’t reflect his immediate preferences. I don’t see those 3 west coast teams jumping and running to Payton just because he‘s interested in them. They either have new extension obligations tied to their coaches, or it’s just too early to get rid of them while winning like Staley.

I think Payton’s actual options will be Saints, Colts, Broncos, Bears, and Raiders. The Colts have an open HC vacancy. The last three teams’ HCs aren’t fully safe, while they have a young QB or playoff-ready offenses that can go to the next level with Payton. One of Broncos, Bears, and Raiders may move on from their HC if Payton was interested. Mark Davis said it costs too much to get rid of McDaniels right now, but they also wouldn’t want to waste Carr and Adams’ prime years together with a losing HC.
