PSA - get your colonoscopy
I’m not quite of age yet, but some history has caused my doc to go ahead and get this on the schedule.
December 20th for me.
Got it done this morning. 1 polyp. Follow up apppintment in January.
Do yourself a favor and ensure they'll give you general anesthesia. I think it's pretty much a standard practice to do that now, but in case it isn't clear:
You want general anesthesia.
You do not want twilight whatever.
You really do not want the twilight.
Twilight doesn't work for some of us.
So each step of the process was, for me, actually progressively worse. First it was being hungry yesterday, then the miralax kicked in and that was a tough time, but not unbearable.
This morning. they put me about as far under as I could be (don’t remember anything after asking the doc what he was injecting - propofol). But the recovery from the anesthesia has been tough today.
The appointment was at 9:15 this morning. As of 4:51pm today, I still have a splitting headache and thick, covid-like mucus I’m coughing up and blowing out my nose. I finally was able to drink some Powerade an hour or so ago that gave me enough energy to eat a single chicken tender, but still haven’t really eaten yet.
I can feel myself getting progressively better every few minutes but the anesthesia has been the toughest part.
My butt doesn’t even hurt, lol.
All that said, I’d still do it again in a heartbeat. I’m not getting colon cancer, dangit.
