Andy Dalton is PFF’s 2nd highest graded passer this season
Shhh.... They don't want facts. Only what supports the narrative that he's playing well enough to win and and it's the other 52 players that are causing us to lose.
I've had the luxury of watching the real film of a few of our games. He has missed so many throws and been late on some that led to incompletions or contested catches because he didn't throw with anticipation. I'm sorry, but dinking and dunking doesn't earn accolades with me. This is the NFL not pee wee football. You can't win consistently in this league with a QB that plays this way unless you have a historically great defense. The last few years with Drew should have taught you guys that. You can win until the postseason comes around. Then that approach will fail 9 times out of 10.
And also the names on that list: Travis Kelce, Stefon Diggs, Jamar Chase, Tyreek Hill... even Mike Evans is there. Those guys are bona fide NFL WRs, stars even. So to complain about a hard-to-catch hospital ball that was thrown to Taysom because he didn't come up with it, or because this one pass hit Landry in the hands but couldn't pull it in, like it's happens to NFL star WRs, well...
Now, while I can argue stats with the best of them, I personally don't put that much faith in stats. I believe in what my eyes tell me and the context in which I am seeing what I am seeing. You can get that 10 yd completion, but if that came on 3rd and 11 and you missed the guy open 12 yards past the line, well, good for your stats, I guess... or when I get to the point that I can almost predict the sack because I can see the d-line load and the QB can't... I know a hospital ball when I see one... I can see when the alleged team leader is not leading the team.
And hey, I am not special. Most fans who have watched the game for a long time can tell those things too.
Dalton is not incompetent, but he's mediocre, and in a game where emotions run high, he inspires no one; it's a very different vibe when either Jameis or Taysom are under center.
