New Year’s Eve

I'm not sure if you're familiar with it, but many of the Mardi Gras krewes have a huge party after the parade finishes its route and they call it a Ball. The end of the parade is like the end of a fireworks show where everything goes nuts. Bacchus is one of the big parades, and they roll into a huge arena (it used to be the Superdome for Bacchus, but that was a long time ago).

Check this out - it's pretty cool. Good stuff starts about 35 seconds in.

Thanks. That's quite a party, more people are there than there are people in my entire county.

The reason I said that I thought the Bacchus ball was about insulin is because we're so far away that about the only thing we get to see about the Bacchus ball are appeals for donations for diabetes research. They used to be on TV back when I had a TV.

The reason I thought it similar to a fireman's rubber boot is about once a year a fireman will be out on the road blocking a lane holding his boot out to drivers in their cars, and to get by one has to stuff a dollar into the boot for muscular dystrophy. There was some similarity to that fireman on the street scene, and what those old Bacchus ball TV charity ads were like. I don't know if those ads are still on TV, that was a long time ago.
