Will Saints stand pat at QB with...Jameis Winston?

While the yahoo article certainly seems the most likely scenario, I find it surprising that Jameis is saying "Not so fast, I've still got a year on my contract." This makes it sound like, despite the snub he received from Dennis Allen last year (and the rumours that Dalton outperformed him in camp), Jameis wants to stay in New Orleans for a shot at winning back the starting QB job.

As crazy as it might sound, is it just possible the coaching staff and front office will decide to pass on Carr or any of the other semi-questionable free agent names available and stand pat to let Winston have another shot (I would assume such a scenario means they have a rookie QB targeted in the draft)?

I'm not quite sure what to make of Jameis' statement. Just seems surprising to me that after what happened last season, he wouldn't be asking to be let go for a shot elsewhere.
I don’t think they’ll “pass” on Carr or another free agent QB who’s considered better than what we have. But I think it’s more than possible that we aren’t able to land that QB through free agency. So I guess I wouldn’t be too shocked if we bring him back. But frankly, if I were him (or any of the top tier free agent QBs for that matter), I’m not sure I’d want to come here (or stay here in his case). Especially over say the Jets or some other team with more $ and better chances at immediate success. Interested to see how it plays out. Commanders now have Bienemy so I could see them being a decently attractive landing spot for a high risk guy like Jameis looking to prove themselves.
