Comparing Raiders 2014 depth chart to Saints 2023 depth chart
This is worth an update. The below are still areas of need
Sam LB
3rd/4th WR
3Tech DT
G backup/Starter
3rd Safety
3rd TE
The Sam I think you locate in the draft. It’s a rush role and the draft is littered with undersized guys who can fill the role. It’s also the one position that DA has consistently allowed rookies to get snaps at. Otherwise he enjoys veteran defensive units.
3rd Safety is important. If you can get a legitimate upgrade here, you can use Mathieu as a deep safety less and more in a slot, Dime LB, and edge role. He’s a pressure player on a team that needs guys who can get after the QB.
The Saints have yet to resign Landry so it’s a domino that needs to fall. You could look to draft here but I think you’ll get more production from a vet.
A third TE would be a nice fill. Foster Moreau visited and it makes sense to add a veteran here.
Guard is upgradeable, we know that by Pete taking a paycut. We will draft someone here. Not sure it’s a must early, because it wouldn’t take much to upgrade from Peat.
3 Tech DT.
You can run with a pressure player here or just a run stopper. I don’t know if you have to chase this more than an edge guy, due to how we blitz ILB’s.
WR is a value slot here. The market hasn’t been kind to this position and there are some names still out there that can help a team. Smith is still under contract but is at best your 4th/5th option.
Edit: An extra runner is an option but not something you have to chance. Kind of like when we had Ingram and AP but nabbed Kamara because the value was too good to pass up
