Tree offers his retrospective on the Ricky Williams trade
When I heard we traded up for Ricky, I was ECSTATIC. Then I learned what we gave up to get him, and it immediately threw cold water on my emotions. Remember thinking "he BETTER be the next coming of Walter Payton."
He wasn't, but I don't think coaching or playcalling did him any favors. Ricky balled out for the Saints and I never held his draft cost against him. I would've liked to have kept him, but when we drafted Deuce, the handwriting was on the wall. I'm sure the rest of the league read that handwriting too. Honestly, I'm amazed we got what we did for Ricky, and Ricky balled out for Miami, ensuring we got that conditional first. I've got nothing but GOOD memories of Ricky Williams, despite the wedding dress. But even that told me the dude didn't have an ego problem.
